Is Syria the Next Libya?

recently the streets in Syria have been looking like that of Egypt during their spring revolution. hundreds of thousands of protesters (for the most part) simply demonstrating an intense want for change. The government forces have been reluctant to do much however. small skirmishes kill a few people here and there but there is no war yet. Soon, the Syrian government will be forced to change or break out into civil war like that of Libya's government.

Although it seems Syria has been somewhat of a back story amid the US debt crisis that seemed to engulf the world as it is unwary weather the US holds the world on its shoulders. But the revolution is very real, and lt us not forget that almost everywhere in the Arab world is coming to this crisis. We must not forget about those fighting for their simple liberties. At least the UN pays attention to this... for once.

Also, Mubarak is on trial, I'm sure h's not going to see the light of day for quit some time... or ever again, you know how revolutions go... so much glory...

The Last Month in Review

Since i left a lot has been happening in the world. especially in North Africa and the Middle East. as everyone remembers the Egyptian revolution was successful, and as many prominent politicians described, this has caused unrest in the Arab world. how much unrest exactly? well basically every Arab country (excluding Iraq) has had some form of popular dissent. Libya is in full out Civil War with the government.

A wave of popular support not only for human rights, but for democracy. this is no ordinary Arab revolutionary movement, from all sides it seems completely secular. not only secular, but... peaceful in nature

Of course Libya's situation has arisen to the status of Civil War, not because of the protester's accord, but because the government refused to step down and openly fired on peaceful protesters. I urge everyone to vote for the passing of a no-fly zone over Libya. Libyan planes are actively bombing pro-Democracy protesters. http://www.avaaz.org/en/libya_no_fly_zone_1/?cl=974484304&v=8575. It's the least any of us can do.

Major protests in Iraq seem a dim light of hope for a peaceful transitional government in a country that has been ravaged by war for a decade.

Popular sentiment has caused uprisings in a whole slew of countries, not only for these countries in turmoil. people are starting to realize, the people can do something about their situations, they can cause change.

Mubarak is OUT

Today, the 30 year president of Egypt has resigned from office. the revolution has succeeded! Finally, we see the people win for once.

Could this be the domino that starts a new wave of peaceful revolutionary movements? Only time will tell.

Why Can't America Stay out of Everyone's Goddamn Business?

America has flipped and flopped on its position about the Egypt crisis enough believing that the entire world cares what they 'think of the situation'. They seriously need to stay out of everyones business since they only seem to support what looks like it will serve their best interest.

At the start of the protests, the US gov't said that they completely supported protesters in search for a democratic reform... while aiding the Egyptian government 1.3 billion in Tanks, Planes, Troops, equipment and training. The protesters were quite surprised when they were pelted with tear gas canisters bearing the mark "Made in the USA"

They completely supported the pro Autocratic government that was Mubarak's Dynasty. The United Sates attempted to blacklist the Al Jazeer network that was the only live streaming of issues in Egypt. They succeeded in 48 out of the 51 states too. Leaving only Ohio, Vermont and Washington D.C. able to broadcast the live feed. They actually prepared a bill that they had drafted a long time ago called COICA (Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act). It would shut down internet websites that streamed information about the Egyptian revolution that didn't go through one of America's state sponsored news operations(Fox, NBC, CNN, etc.) so much for freedom of the press eh?

When it seemed like the government was shaky and could in fact topple, they resigned their statement and refused to issue any position on the current situation.

Since the government has obviously lost and it's just a matter of time before the president is forced to resign or no longer holds any power, America shows its utmost support for the protesters.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! Now that nothing has really been getting done in Egypt recently, the government scaled back their support to a "gradual political reform"


So seriously America, F*ck off, let this, for ONCE, be a PEACEFUL, PEOPLE'S REVOLUTION.

Egypt. 'nuff said

The most popular revolutionary movement going on at this time is obviously Egypt. more than two million people protesting against the government in the capital city alone, that's quite a thing to happen. and one more, they're peaceful! It seems to be just a matter of time before the president is forced to step down. the lack of food and money did little to deter the protesters. Pro government troops, clashes with police troops, none of these have deterred the momentum of the patriots.

This popular movement, spawned from the successful toppling of Tunisia's government has spawned more and more actions around the world in the name of freedom and civil rights. Myanmar's military dictatorship has stepped down leaving in its place a democratic parliament. The government in Jordan has been scrapped by the government in response to protests. mass protests have spawned in South Africa, New York and other cities in the support of the Egyptian movement.

Conceived in the economic hardships of Egypt's late economy, this 'revolution' is starting to look like that of the French Revolution of over 200 years prior. Could this be the enlightenment in the Arabic world? Only time will tell. So long as an Arabic Napoleon doesn't arise this could be the beginning of a very wonderful time.

It seems that the free world is just hoping that this revolution doesn't turn religious. There wouldn't be much worse than to have another radical Islamic state with a powerful military on our hands. So far, it seems like the protests are strictly secular. Christians have protected Muslims while they pray, Jewish, Orthodox, Hindu, any religion is accepted, they are there for their freedom.

Sooner or later, the government will step down, or lose its legitimacy and be replaced. nothing is more powerful than people fighting for their basic rights, ready to die at any moment for their comrades.
